Gentleness with Sally Clarkson

On today’s episode I’m chatting with Sally Clarkson about gentleness. You guys know that sitting down with a seasoned mentor is one of my simple joys and today was no different! Sally and I talked about how gentle the Lord is with us, as his children. I asked Sally to join me in this particular conversation because I feel like she really exudes gentleness. You guys are going to hear her heart to come alongside women in whatever season they’re navigating and point them to Jesus.

  1. Can you tell us a little about who you are and what you do?

  2. What is gentleness?

  3. Where do we see God described as gentle in and through the Biblical text?

  4. What is the ultimate expression of his gentleness?

  5. Are there seasons or challenges in your own life that were difficult at the time, but that you can now look back on and see as evidence of God’s gentleness?

  6. Why is it so difficult for us to be gentle with others?

  7. What encouragement do you have for those of us who feel like we are continually blowing it in this area?

  8. Who is it that enables us to be gentle? What would it look like to grow in gentleness?

THREE QUESTIONS I ASK EVERY GUEST

  1. What 3 resources would you recommend for someone who wants to learn more about gentleness?

  2. What are your 3 simple joys?

  3. Who has had the greatest impact on your own journey with Jesus?

NOTEWORTHY QUOTES

“Gentleness and humility is at the cross of Christ.”

“We are caught up in a ‘do’ culture. We tend to measure ourselves by numbers, accomplishments, degrees. I love the fact that when Jesus came to the world as a picture of who God is in the flesh - he came with no stately form or majesty that we should look upon. He came humbly. He came quietly. He came not to impress anyone, he didn’t need to.”

“It’s amazing that the God who created the universe, that he would come to the world as a vulnerable little baby in the form of family, that he would bow his knee to wash dirty toes, that he would invite into his presence a prostitute who felt condemned, that he would touch the unclean.”

“He had compassion on our rebellion.”

“It has taken me a lifetime to realize how selfish and works-oriented I am.”

“God is pleased for me to come into his presence.”

“He will collect every tear that I have.”

“Babies were made to be dependent. They have no other way than a parent providing it.”

“Don’t spill all over yourself in self-condemnation.”

“He was the one who prepared me and called me to influence [my children].”

“We have access to the very words of God for a lifeline and for connection to God.”
